Basic Function:

This position requires the technician to perform various growth and fabrication duties. The individual will be responsible for building stations, weighing and mixing charges, and fabricating as-grown material into lenses.

Position Requirements:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent - with a strong math background and computer skills. Associates degree in science, engineering, or manufacturing is a plus. Tradespersons must be certified or accredited within an applicable trade.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience or 2 years of optical/Crystal Growth experience.
  • Experience with precision measurement methods and systems
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and process procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and procedures closely while offering suggestions for continuous improvement
  • Experience with networked PC based computer system (spreadsheets, Email, MRP systems)

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Good manual dexterity
  • The individual will be constantly acquiring knowledge of crystal growth manufacturing, crystal fabrication, and defect characterization techniques.
  • The technician must have the ability to adhere to new processes and should assist with problem definition and solution implementation.
  • The position requires this technician to be organized and to keep accurate records.
  • The technician must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • The technician is able to follow procedures, fabricate to a documented print, and use various machinery unsupervised including: Ovens, Dryers, string saws, wire saws, and a centerless od grinder.
  • The technician should also be able to follow procedures and use various measurement devices unsupervised including: scales, drop gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
