Progressive Care Unit
South Tampa Hospital's Progressive Care Unit is a 20 -bed unit
specializing in Cardiac Care and other Transitional type care. -
Our staff takes pride in our unit and lives the motto "Excellent
Patient Care through Outstanding Teamwork" every day. - Each of our
nurses are ACLS certified, NIH stroke Scale Certified, Advanced
Cardiac Rhythm Recognition certified, and many have other PCU
specific specialty certifications. - Our staff is known for
providing the most individualized, exceptional, quality care
possible. - We work in a fast-paced but noticeably friendly area,
where fantastic staff is the key to our success.
- Bed count: 20
- Types of Cases Commonly Seen: - Post cardiac cath, Cardiac
diagnosis, Stroke, Sepsis
- RN to patient ratio: 1:4
- Skill Mix: Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Unit
- Schedules: - 12-hour shifts
- Dress code: - Scrubs (individual provides their own)
- Complete computerized charting ("Electronic Health Record") for
patient assessment and care documentation via Meditech
- Electronic medication administration record (eMAR) is used for
the delivery of all medications provided to patients and has
significantly reduced errors associated with the - administration
of medication hospital-wide
The Progressive Care Registered Nurse, under the direction of Unit
Director/Charge Clinical Coordinator, -is responsible and
accountable for patient assessment and evaluation and delivery of
patient care through the utilization of the nursing process in
accordance with physicians' orders, established policies and
procedures, established professional standards, and administrative

- Nursing Diploma or ASN; BSN preferred.
- Minimum 1 year RN experience in an acute care setting
- Current Florida State Registered Nurse license.
- Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association
Healthcare Provider (BLS & ACLS certifications)
- NIHSS preferred; obtained within 30 days of hire.
- National certification (i.e. CCRN, PCCN, CMSRN) required within
6 months of eligibility.
- Lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of
objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal
communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written
instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills.
