Here is your opportunity to build and lead a new team! Using your expertise in the field of design and construction management, this opportunity will allow you to coach and mentor a team that is dedicated to making a positive impact towards a cause that matters. This exciting position will be responsible for managing and leading the District's newly formed Design & Construction Management Section.--This new management position will allow the successful candidate to form an innovative team to standardize design and construction management practices for the implementation of capital improvement projects.--The Design and Construction Manager (Engineering Section Manager) will have three professional direct reports focused on managing projects identified in the Capital Improvement Plan for Flood Control Structures. You'll have the chance to work with a wide range of teams in this rewarding position, each of which plays a vital role in our efforts to preserve our most valuable natural resources.

      Compensation:$90,000.00 - $110,00.00
      The--starting--salary range is included for the--Scientific Manager--profile which reflects 15.2%--to 77.1% of the respective pay grade. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.
      Essential Functions

      • Hire, supervise, evaluate, develop, coach, discipline, discharge and otherwise manage and lead staff and resolve staff issues in accordance with established policies and procedures.--
      • Oversee management of projects ranging from capital improvement planning, design and construction of flood control and conservation structure components to entire facilities.
      • Coordinate with the District Structure Operations (STROPS), State, and local government staff in the development of standards, procedures, project requirements and review/approval of project design and construction.

        Working Conditions
        Work is primarily performed in a standard office setting. Ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding and driving) with one or both hands and feet is required. Considerable time is spent outside the office meeting with legislators, board members, government officials, scientists, engineers, other agencies' staff, and the general public. Some time is also spent in the field, often at remote, undeveloped sites and/or on or around open water.--May be exposed to extremes in elements, temperature, and humidity and to a variety of pests, including mosquitoes and ticks. Must be able to operate a District vehicle for 2 or more hours at a time.--Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
        Employee--may--be subject to call-in outside of regularly scheduled work hours, or required to be on call, including on nights, weekends or holidays, to respond to emergency management activities or other incidents requiring rapid response in support of District operations.
        Required Credentials--for Engineering Manager Opportunity

        • Bachelors degree (or higher) in engineering, and/or related field
        • Five (5) years related work experience in design and construction management
        • Valid Florida Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
        • Valid driver's license

          Preferred Credentials--for Engineering Manager Opportunity

          • Two (2) years supervisory experience

          • Experience with design and construction of water control structures

          • Degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering
